Small soap bubbles have been a beloved toy for children and adults. But giant soap bubbles — requiring a fluid with very specific properties - remained for a long time the domain of a narrow group of artists. The development of modern detergents made it possible to create bubbles of monstrous scale. But they were fragile. Only the addition of natural polymers to the solution made it elastic and significantly more resilient. Illusionists, clowns, puppeteers, chemists, and inventors together built the foundations of a new branch of art based on this extraordinary material. Bubbles bring laughter and magic. Since meeting Piotr - my friend and a bubble master - I’ve had much more of both in my life. Piotr met his American mentor, Gary Thomas, in 1990 - a meeting that changed the direction of his artistic path. What followed are thirty-five years of practice, invention, and wonder. This knowledge has been passed down through generations - and now, we want to share it, along with a few bubbles, with you.
